Anal Cancer in the LGBTQIA Populations

Anal cancer refers to the type of cancer that occurs on the anus, particularly at the distal opening to the gastrointestinal tract. The disease may manifest in various ways, including bleeding from the anal area or the development of a lump near the anus. Furthermore, the disease may manifest through pain, itchiness, or sometimes, anal discharging. While there are several risk factors, the human papillomavirus (HPV), HIV/AIDS, and engaging in anal sex are the leading causes of anal cancer. Other less common risk factors include engaging in heterosexual or anal sex behavior with several sexual partners. With at least 8300 individuals testing positive in the United States yearly, the disease is one of the leading cancer-related diseases in the US (National Cancer Institute, n.p). Furthermore, there is a worrying trend since the 1990s, with the latest increase in the United States being estimated at 68% as of 2019.

IgG incubation: Pepsin Vs Papain

About 75% of all immunoglobulins in our body is IgG. IgG is small and light weighing ( about 146 kilodaltons) with gamma heavy chain. The molecule is 'Y' shaped and has fab ( fragment antigen binding ) and fc ( fragment crystalline ) regions. Between fab and fc is the hinge region. Papain the enzyme isolated from pappaya tree latex splits the IgG molecule into 3 equal pieces by cleaving the hinge region- 2 fab pieces and 1 fc. Papain digested antibody is unable to promote agglutination and lysis. Whereas pepsin the enzyme isolated from stomach juice digest the IgG molecule and yields 1 (fab)2 molecules and 1 fc molecule.
