BIO 2133 Genetics Lab Report 3 Inheritance Pattern in Epistatic, Lethal and Sex-linked Mutations

The mutation of interest for part 1 of the lab (lethal mutations) are ST and SB. ST stands for star eyes mutant phenotype (character: eye shape) while SB stands for stubble bristles mutant phenotype (character: bristle). Question: What is the pattern of inheritance in a dihybrid cross for which the female is heterozygous mutant for an autosomal lethal allele (ST+) and the male is homozygous wild type (++). Hypothesis: A cross between two parent that have different alleles (one that expresses the dominant trait and one that expresses the recessive trait) at one gene will produce offspring following Mendel’s first law. However, the homozygous mutant progeny will not survive and so phenotypic ratio will be rescaled among the surviving progeny.

BIO 2137 Biodiversity Report Introduction to Plant Science

This report examines the importance of the Kudzu (Pueraria Montana) plant, as well as provides an extensive overview of Kudzu in terms of its biodiversity, taxonomy, and life cycle. With its fast-growing vines and large ropey mats, kudzu is one of the most invasive plant species. Its growth has been observed in Southeast Asia, Oceania and has been introduced to South and North America. It has spread extensively across America, reaching Canadian soils. Its invasion comes with an abundance of negative impacts that have yet to be solved. Due to this, kudzu is a highly important species that must be further researched. Kudzu follows the life cycle of most angiosperms since it is a flower bearing plants. Aside from propagating sexually through biotic and abiotic factors, it can easily propagate asexually through cutting. It is known for being highly adaptable in that it can grow successfully under various environmental conditions. However, Kudzu strives best on fertile ground under the exposure of sunlight.
