£1.50 Preview RemoveThe Cost of Influence Examining the Impact of Money and Interest Groups on Public Policy
In a democratic society, public policy decisions are meant to reflect the interests and values of the people. However, in practice, certain groups may have more influence over the policy-making process than others. Interest groups, defined as organized associations of individuals with shared goals and preferences, are one such group that often seek to shape public policy to further their interests. In political science, the study of interest groups and their impact on public policy has been an important and ongoing area of research. By examining the strategies and tactics of interest groups, as well as how they interact with policymakers, political scientists seek to understand better the role of interest groups in the policy-making process and their effects on public policy outcomes. This chapter will explore the impact of interest groups on public policy in greater detail, examining their influence on policy decisions and the implications of this influence on democratic governance

£0.50 Preview RemoveALGORITHM DESIGN
The summary of this note deal with how to design good algorithms, which is about the mathematical theory behind the design of good programs, and to study algorithms as pure mathematical objects, and so ignore issues such as programming language, machine, and operating system. This has the advantage of clearing away the messy details that affect implementation. But these details may be very important. This Lecture note consists of three major sections. The first is on the mathematical tools necessary for the analysis of algorithms. This will focus on asymptotic, summations, and recurrences. The second element will deal with one particularly important algorithmic problem: sorting a list of numbers. We will show a number of different strategies for sorting, and use this problem as a case study in different techniques for designing and analyzing algorithms. The final third of the course will deal with a collection of various algorithmic problems and solution techniques. Finally we will close this last third with a very brief introduction to the theory of NP-completeness. NP-complete problem are those for which no efficient algorithms are known, but no one knows for sure whether efficient solutions might exist.
