Photosynthesis: Topic 17: Biology
Photosynthesis is the process plants use to make glucose/food
...
Light energy
Carbon dioxide + water
glucose + oxygen
The glucose produced is used for respiration and other processes
...
Respiration is happening
all the time
...
Leaves
have large surface areas since they must be able to absorb as much
light as possible for the process
...
The stomata allow CO2
to diffuse into the leaf
...
Diffusion – the transportation of molecules
...
What can affect photosynthesis:
• Light intensity – without enough light the plants cannot
photosynthesise quickly
• Temperature – if the atmosphere is too cold the photosynthesis
rate decreases, if it’s too hot the process does not proceed
• CO2 concentration - The rate of photosynthesis increases if the
carbon dioxide concentration increases, however, the rate
gradually decreases and remains at a constant pace, therefore,
the CO2 has no effect on the rate of photosynthesis
