Cell Theory: Describes the properties of cells
1
...
All living things come from cells, through cell division
3
...
○
Phosphates
■
On the outside of the membrane (each side) are made of water, and allow water
through, but block out fats
○
Fatty acids/Hydrophobic tail
■
○
Made of fats, and allow fats through but prevent water from entering
Protein
■
■
●
Allows some things to come through
Gives the cell complete control and regulation
Only oxygen can enter the cell through the fluid mosaic model
Microscope Review:
1
...
Allows you to switch the objectives
3-5
...
Hold specimen in place
7
...
Gives light
9
...
Used to carry the microscope
11
...
Allows for broad focusing
13
...
Supports the microscope
Procedure for focusing on high power for a wet mount slide:
1
...
Wet the specimen
3
...
Make sure that the lense is on the lowest power
5
...
Observe using the Coarse adjustment knob, and fine adjustment knob
7
...
Continue until the highest power is reached
Why are cells small?:
The cell membrane grows at a slower rate than the cell itself, and if the cell grows larger than the
membrane, the cell will die, because materials cannot cross the membrane fast enough to support the cell
