Event Analysis
The Olympics, Pukkelpop 2011, and The Boston Marathon 2013
Mega-events such as the Olympics have both positive and negative effects
...
Both the audience and the sportsmen- and
women are all in the same environment, whereby they share what they do
best: supporting or playing
...
At an event such as the Olympics, thousands of
reporters/journalists for newspapers, sports magazines, television and radio
are present at the event
...
These events also have made it beneficial for
multiple companies to advertise their brands/products/services, which is seen
worldwide
...
This creates
awareness, so that whenever someone sees a brand, they immediately relate
it to that type of sports/sports team
...
Whenever someone thinks about the Olympics, they
immediately relate to Coca Cola
...
Finally, events bring crowds centered to a location,
whereby the positive effect is that the location benefits from the overload of
“tourists” coming there to attend the event
...
However, mega-events also have negative effects
...
The hosts need to
make sure that there are no diseases that are spread around at the location
where the event is being held
...
Especially mega-events like the Olympics give terrorists
the perfect place to show their intentions and carry out their plans since so
many important people, and people from all different levels of society are
centered together
...
It also needs not to be
forgotten to look at the economical status of the country/region you are going
to host the event
...
This shows that the economy is very unstable which can cause
problems between the visitors and the locals
...
People need to shower,
drink, clean themselves, etcetera
...
And not only that, as well the location where the
Olympics are held, needs to be cleared from local people
...
The locals housing rights will just simply be taken away
from them, because this event is so-called, more important than people
having a house to live in
...
Especially since these events tend to present
peace and global solidarity, but between the lines, this is not exactly how it is
operated
...
To give two other examples, Pukkelpop, another big event
that went through some issues during one of their festivals in 2011
...
An unexpected mini thunderstorm passed through
them on the 18 of August 2011
...
Sixty thousand people were evacuated after the “minithunderstorm” caused a stage collapse
...
Unfortunately, damage from natural disasters was not covered by Pukkelpop’s
insurance policy, and therefor it could not issue cash refunds to ticket holders
of that year
...
“The festival will only be able to survive with the support of
many and thanks to the strong reputation it has built up in the past
...
The
expenses for the organizers of Pukkelpop suffered heavy financial losses and
had to face the consequences because they did not decide to pay restitution
...
Four days later, after an intense manhunt that shut down the Boston area,
police captured one of the bombing suspects, 19-year-old Dzhokhar
Tsarnaev, whose older brother and fellow suspect, 26-year-old Tamerlan
Tsarnaev, died following a shootout with law enforcement earlier that same
day
...
Dzhokar Tsarnaev is scheduled to stand trial in November 2014; federal
prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty
...
history
...
And of course, anticipation is a key aspect when planning an event,
because if you do not do proper research about the Political, Environmental,
Social, Technical, Legal and Economical aspects of the country/place you are
planning to host your event, you will definitely stumble upon problems, since
you always have to adjust to all these aspects summed up above in order to
make sure your event will be successful
...
The Bailiff’s panel requires this risk
assessment from all events being held
...
The first step is about identifying the
hazards
...
Afterwards they should evaluate the risks and take appropriate
action
...
And then
the final step is about reviewing and revising the assessment as necessary
...
They will need to communicate with all those
involved
...
And keep a record of all the contact details of all these individuals that
are involved in these actions
...
Whilst as well offering the tickets that were
bought before for entry, food and beverages for free
...
Of course, weather can

Event Analysis
The Olympics, Pukkelpop 2011, and The Boston Marathon 2013
change in an instant but it would have had to come from somewhere
...
In the second example, about the Boston Marathon bombing, it was
also very unexpected
...
Keeping this in
mind, they should have thought about the fact of just even the most
unthinkable things that could happen, which, in the end it did
...
As well, after the bombing
happened, they traced the suspects
...
Also that if something happens, it will be assessed exactly what
happened, to whom it happened, how it happened, where it happened,
etcetera
...
