Throughout the entirety of Macbeth, there are multiple motifs that can be seen
that ultimately play a role in one of the themes presented
...
He does so by using the three witches to represent the wisemen referenced in the Bible regarding the prophecy of Jesus one day becoming king of
all kings, the Thane of Cawdor repenting for the crimes he committed as he was being
put to death just as those who were being crucified next to Jesus did as they were being
put to death, and through Macbeth who ultimately betrays Duncan just as Judas betrayed
Jesus in the Bible
...
This is supported by the text when it
reads, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that Shalt
be king hereafter!” This is a motif that can easily be compared to the story of the three
wise-men who appeared baby Jesus’ manger to prophesize that he would one day be
king
...
This ultimately comes
back to the theme of the appropriate use of power
...
” What he is saying is that sometimes people will
only tell you part of the truth in order to make you do something that you otherwise may
not do
...
By saying this, you are able to tell that Banquo is
somewhat aware that something does not seem right about what the witches are saying
...
Another event that takes place that can compare the Christianity motif to the play
would be when the original thane of Cawdor repents for the crimes that he committed,
while being executed
...
” This is
exactly how the story of the man who died alongside Jesus went in the Bible
...
Although this may not seem as though it relates to theme of the
appropriateness of power it does in the fact that the original thane of Cawdor was man
enough to own up to his mistakes, rather than be a coward about them
...
Lastly, the Christianity motif plays a role in developing the theme of
appropriateness of power when Macbeth betrays King Duncan
...
This is supported by the text when it says, “I have done the deed
...
Macbeth went
power crazy and killed the king, so he himself could be king
...
Along with comparing Macbeth to Judas, you can also compare
Lady Macbeth to Judas after the betrayal
...
This is
supported by the text when it says, “The queen, my lord, is dead
...
The
motif of Christianity does an outstanding job in portraying the theme of appropriateness
of power because there are many scenes that are easily comparable to exact
circumstances that occurred in the Bible
...
