- They kill richeau because they didn’t want to give any of them to the Gestapo

Plot

Vladek needs help with fixing windows due to a storm
Art talks to his father and convinces him to continue with the story
The train heading to the Swiss and German border is stopped
The prisoners get off the train
German patrol finds them and plans to shoot the prisoners near a lake
The officer's girlfriend convinces the patrol not to shoot
Prisoners are free but are escorted to a guarded barn, and by morning the
officers are gone
Vladek suggests to Shivek that they find somewhere to wait for the Americans
They go to a garage but the owner tells German officers that they are here
Vladek and Shivek hide in another barn where they find food and milk
Americans find them
Back in the present Vladek shows Art photos of family members and their fates
Vladek gets chest pain and Art lies him down
