- Dalton was born September 6, 1766 and died July 27, 1844
- In the early 1800’s, John Dalton experimented with different gases and liquids to try to
change their chemical changes
- When Dalton broke down water using an electric current, he was able to observe that
when the hydrogen and oxygen formed, they had very different properties from the
original water
- Using experiments like those, Dalton created a theory that is now called Dalton’s atomic
theory
- Dalton referred to the atom as a small, hard, indestructible sphere that is the smallest
particle of an element
- Dalton decided to try created a model of an atom based on his knowledge
- Dalton stated that different elements are composed of different atoms
