The strengths that I have identified during the performance analysis of this team are
the smash, the dig and the underarm serve

being performed well however players more suited to the front of the court can
perform it to a effective standard where as other players who prefer playing near the
back of the court are not using this skill

The aims of this development plan are to get all players to be able to perform the
game to a high standard whilst in a game situation

Short, Medium and Long term goals
In the short term I feel the team need to continue being able to perform the strengths
of the team to a high standard whilst also improving the standards of the weaknesses
whilst practising in training sessions

For example if there is poor
communication during training sessions there will be poor communication during a
game as they have not formed the routine of communicating through the game

I also feel it is important to improve communication as I feel this is the key
weakness of the team as this is essential in all team sports

I feel the medium term goals are to be able to improve the weaknesses of the over arm

Ways the Team Can Improve
One way the team can improve communication is by during the play (for example
whilst performing a set or dig) the player can call the name of the player they are
passing the ball to

A second way to improve communication is similar to the first
however is the player calling the name if they want to perform the pass or shot with
the ball

One way to improve positional awareness is to have a training session where you talk
through the positions in volleyball and show where they are on the court
...
Whilst doing this,
cones could be put down on the court so that as a game is started it will allow players
to have a visual reference as to where on the court they should be
...
This will
stop gaps appearing in the teams defence on the court and will decrease the amount of
points scored as they will function better as a team
...
Finally to improve the over arm serve first players could practise getting the
connection with the ball right

Once this has been mastered the player could aim for a target but this
time throw there own ball in the air

The third stage of improving this skill would be
practising on a court with a net and just continually practising till the skill is mastered
and can be performed effectively in a game situation

A final way to continue progression after the 6 week training plan is to include more
competitive games so instead of improving positional awareness I would change this
to a competitive game but reduce it to twice a week allowing a longer rest break as the
intensity would have increased but also allowing more experience of competitive
situations

Possible Obstacles for Achieving The Goals Set
The possible obstacle for achieving the goal for communication could be individual
player’s lack of knowledge of the sport

A simple way to
improve this is by using simple terms so that all members of the team can understand
what is expected of them during the training session or in a game situation as this will
keep it simple and easy to understand

This is because not all players will watch games of volleyball and therefore not all
players may understand the positions in volleyball
...
This will mean players have a better
understanding of playing different positions whilst playing in a game of volleyball
...
This may mean it takes some
players longer to learn the over arm serve however they will just need more practise
as this is what is needed to improve any skill in any sport as it cannot be expected to
be learnt straight away
...
They may also need individual help and one to one
coaching points to help them learn the skill rather than just being taught it as part of
the group
