This assignment is about Human Resources, discussing their main activities in my
chosen organization, explaining the steps in recruitment and selection and also explain
what performance appraisal is and how it contributes to the success of my chosen
organization

The Human Resources Functions are; internal recruitment, External Recruitment, pay
roll, advertising , benefits, legislation, motivation and rewards, contracts, appraisals,
Health and safety

Internal Recruitment: this is when McDonald’s advertise online or by handing out
leaflets with the vacancies they have, targeting candidates from the inside which
means that they are targeting people that already have experience working at
McDonald’s but moved from there for personal reasons and they want to work at
McDonalds again, this is a good way to recruit as it is easier to employ staff with
experience than new staff , this method it is also useful because McDonald’s won’t have
to spend money on training new staff which it makes this type of recruitment effective
to the organization as they will be saving more money which could be used for more
important things such as and because they hire more people with experience by
internal recruitment McDonalds it is being successful on providing good customers
service and by having a good customer service at McDonald’s they attract more
customers to their business which makes the organization successful

Training and development: at McDonald’s there are some training stages , the first one
is at the welcome meeting , where after having a discussion with the manager , the
manager will tell the candidate to watch for one hour how other staff at McDonald’s
works so they get an idea on what to do and after that the manager will let the
candidate go home to do an Orientation training which is basically online training
these includes; online till games, health and safety flyers , customer service flyers,
products flyers , packing flyers , uniform flyers and everything they are supposed to
know before starting to work their first day at McDonald’s

Disciplinary procedure at McDonald’s ,this happens when an employee has a bad
behavior, attitude ,conduct, and they are not performing with their work then the
manager is informed about this and the employee will undertake disciplinary
procedures

In this second step of disciplinary procedure the manager will investigate
more about the fact by interviewing more employees that might have information and
put cameras to investigate more the employee under disciplinary after this the
manager will proceed to step 3 which is Conduct Disciplinary Meeting this is when the
manager arranges another meeting with the employee concerned and another
manager as witness, here the manager will give a chance to the employee to provide
any explanation about his or her conduct and ask any questions after this the manager
will go to step 4 where the manager will consider the employee’s explanation and check
their work history , the gravity of the problem and their personal circumstances

Another method that McDonald’s motivates employees is by giving employees a
chance to progress or build a career though their organisation, this motivates
employees that wants to progress to higher job roles such as shift manager, store
manager, head office but they didn’t had the possibility to study and at McDonald’s
they are able to improve their skills and knowledge by taking some courses outside the
organisation with trainee manager , after they achieve all the skills they need to
progress they will have a test to became a manager, this is a really effective way to
motivate employees with career plans, and by keeping employees as a result they will
focus more on their job and on learning new skills to get more knowledge pass the
tests they will be taking

They also offer a company car to motivate their employees as they would be able to use
the car for their personal needs and the company as well as choose their car from a
range of cars depending on their job title and how they progress within the company,
this motivates employees because McDonalds covers all the costs of the car insurance,
repair , petrol and maintenance, this is a good way to engage employees and motivate
them to work hard as they won’t have to pay for the car only work hard within the
company and the car is a compensation for their hard work and engagement

Another way that McDonalds motivates their employees is by giving
everyone flexible hours to work which motivates them to work because not everyone
can work full time, there might be students looking for a part time job and this is a
good way to attract employees and retain them in the job

candidate will react in different situations with customers, after careful consideration
to the candidate’s applications, the manager will contact the potential candidates and
invite them for an interview, at the interview the candidate should wear smart clothes
and be professional

At the orientation meeting they will be given a folder with some training flyers to get
ready before their first day of work, they will be asked for the personal details and
bank account they will also be given information about employees benefits and the
uniform

Furthermore after completing the orientation meeting the candidate will be asked to
go online and do a online orientation , this consists on completing 10 topics all of them
with 8 questions relating different customer service situations, how to make sure that
bacteria won’t be poisoned by germs, keeping the area clean , how to use their utensils
while working in the kitchen, the steps of providing a good customer service and more
questions related to this , McDonald’s does this type of orientation to make sure they
employ the right candidates , to make sure that they will be able to deal with different
situations and to develop their knowledge of the organisation

than other , which will also increase McDonald’s sales and customer’s satisfaction
