Phases  of  a  Coaching  Programme,  pre  –  season,  preparatory,  competition,  post  competition

Intro
I  will  approach  this  with  the  assumption  that  the  horse  has  had  the  winter  off  and  as  such  I  will  pay
special  attention  to  fitness  and  possibility  of  injury
...

Pre  Season
The  most  essential  element  is  the  meeting  especially  the  first  one
...

So  using  the  SMART  system,  we  would  consider  what  is  SMART
...
March  to  April  to  become  more  accomplished
...
I  know  what  my  pupil  wants  to  achieve  and  when  by  there  will  be  no  drifting
along
...

...

Preparatory

The  Plan  is  now  to  be  followed  but  remember  each  stage  will  depend  on  the  fitness  of  both  horse
and  rider  and  the  plan  cannot  be  too  stringently  followed  we  may  have  to  push  boundaries
sometimes  or  indeed  rein  them  in
...

DISCUSS  6  WEEK  PLAN
...

Don’t  forget  –  checking  physical  and  mental  preparation  and  remembering  the  risk  of  injury
...

Health  and  Safety  expand  on  ………getting  fattening  programme  right  so  no  injuries
We  need  to  be  constantly  monitoring  feed  ………and  increase
We  have  the  time  at  this  stage  to  check  our  tack  …………………safety  and  legality  for  competing
We  mustn’t  forget  to  check  entry  requirements  we  don’t  want  to  miss  a  deadline  to  sign  up  !

Competition

By  this  stage  we  are  happy  we  are  ready  to  compete
...
   (  Incase  Of  Emergency  )
This  is  all  about  being  eligible  to  enter  we  must  have  sufficient  points  to  be  at  the  level  for  each
competition  we  want  to  take  part  in
...
We  can  rectify  at  this  stage
...
We  get  the  opportunity  for  self  reflection,
evaluation,  did  we  achieve  our  goals  set  out  in  SMART  –  if  not  why  not  ?
We  get  to  analyse  our  achievements  !  Be  the  small  or  big  !  use  for  next  season
Most  of  all  we  probably  want  a  rest  and  a  holiday  then  start  thinking  about  the  nest  Season  !!

Throughout  every  level  of  this  training  we  must  never  forget  that  as  coaches  we  are  here  to  pick  up
the  pieces,  to  wipe  away  the  tears  and  to  cheer  them  on  !  These  can  be  done  in  many  ways  from
feedback  to  empowerment  but  at  the  end  of  the  day  we  are  here  to  help  them  achieve  their  goals  !
