OCCUPY
WHO
The main players in this issue are: the founders, the protesters and the politicians
...
They were both from Adbusters, which is a
Canadian anti-consumerist publication
...
So Adbusters are against this
...
The occupy protest was driven by individuals coming together to make a change, and they referred
themselves as the 99%
Obama said that he understood the frustration of the protesters, and that the most important thing
that he could do was to express support with the protesters, and double his commitment to achieve
an equal community
...
What happened? + When did it happen? – Occupy Wall Street
WHAT/WHEN DID IT HAPPEN
The occupy movement first started September 17th in 2011
...
Ive made a timeline
September 17th - The people gathered in the streets of Manhattan and took over Zuccotti Park
...
There were restaurants and other business establishments who offered food, toilet visits and even
showers for them
...
October 1st
...
Most of the people in the crowd did not know if it was planned or not
...
There were statements that the police guided and let them over the bridge, but there
were also people who said it was just lies
...
October 5th (not on the timeline) – The biggest march after that happened after they first started
...
Thousands of people took over the streets in the lower of
Manhatten
...
October 6th and 13th – The owners of Zuccotti Park were not too pleased about the occupation
...
The mayor of New York City, Bloomberg and Brookfield announced that the people in the park had to
evacuate because of the cleaningprosess
...
October 20th – There was a board meeting complaining about harassment by protesters in Zuccotti
Park
...
Tricia Joyce (a board member)
said: "They have to have some parameters
...
I'm
hoping we can strike a balance on parameters because this could be a long term stay
...
The police gave them notice because the Brookfield Office
Properties (the owners of the park) had had enough
...
After not getting any response, the police just an hour later started
to remove and arresting protesters from the park
...
That’s when they
moved the focus over to occupying banks, colleges and university campuses, board meetings etc
...
The occupy today is still active and they’re still occupying different areas around the world
...
The most
important one is the fact that the majority of people in the USA are having difficulties with
supporting themselves and their families
...
“We are the 99%” is The Occupy Movement’s slogan and that is exactly because of the big difference
between rich and poor
...
1% of Americas population get’s ¼ of the income
...
When the financial crisis occurred in 2008, America got effected pretty bad
...
Thet felt like they no longer had
support from their own government and their leaders
...
Lobbying is a big concern for they protesters
...
” way too much influence and power over the federal government
...
They’re drowning in dept
...
Student loan debt has been rising
drasticly, and college students in the last couple of years are entering one of the worst job markets in
a generation
So to sum it all up, it’s mainly about money, and the big gap between the rich and the poor
