Operant Conditioning: Voluntary behavior
Edward L Thorndike was one of the 1st researchers to do an experiment for this

§ The cat would have to find its way outside of the box to get freedom and to get food that’s
waiting outside

He would move the lever everytime until the cat understood that in order to get out it would
have to push the lever no matter where it is

Came up w/ the law of effect: if an action is followed by a prize it will be rewarded, if
followed by a consequence will not be repeated

Punishment: any event that causes an action to not happen again

Punishment by application: spanking, scolding is added to the situation or applied

Punishment by removal: taking something away b/c of a bad action

Spontaneous Recovery:
§ Trying to do old things to get tricks

A dog doing old treats rather than trying to learn the new one to get the treat

Generalizing:
§ A human believing in superstitious rather than it happens they do that + have great skills
