Logos – appeal to logic
o Will not introduce new ideas; connection of the facts needs to already exist within
the audience
o Deductive Reasoning – we can divide up the possibilities
Understanding the concept of the logic
o Inductive Reasoning – look at the little details and reason backwards through time
o To use logos you have to use connections that people understand
o Examples (From most effective to least effective)
Scientific Examples are the most effective
• Supports itself through reproduce ability
Historic Examples is the second most effective
• Evidence from the past
• Not guaranteed
• AKA: Literary example
Personal Example is not as effective
• From ourselves or someone we know
• Not very reliable depending on how far it is from the source
Hypothetical Example is not effective at all
• Can’t prove it scientifically
• Nothing in history about it
• No personal experience with it
