My High School Years

I was never a part of the cliques of the rich kids, prom queens, fashion divas,
cheerleaders, multi-talented, popular, super nerds, geeks or even the simplest set of students
...
As I stood at the gate of the school I would now call home, my
mother ushered me inside what seemed would be hell
...
Nevertheless I ventured with no great expectations, for I was convinced that I did
not belong
...
The light blue sky that was in actuality filled with fluffy white clouds began to
resemble a sky saturated with dark, tumultuous clouds; it reflected the emotions of fear,
confusion and anxiety that captivated my mind
...

In my first two years I remained the carefree church girl who had no interest in changing
my perspective on life
...
My unrealistic goals of
becoming the best doctor and lawyer at the same time seemed permanent
...
I was ignorant to the fact that
I had not yet reached the stage of self-realization; I had a lot more to learn
...
I was barely
noticed although I managed to have a few people that actually wanted to be my friend
...
All throughout the years I was underestimated, thought of as only the girl that you
would see first running to the lunch line
...
Yes! Yes! I
was the champion of my first two grades
...

With this I was confident that grade 9 would be a breeze
...
I stepped through
the gate of the place I had now made my home, no longer needed to be ushered by my mother
...
With great expectations and a strong conviction
that I had arrived at a level of self-fulfillment, I boldly approached the classroom
...
Then, constant self- introspection took priority in my
life
...
I was too skinny, too
short, and too flat chested or my curves resembled that of a straight line
...
Each day I spent trying to please
my peers the smile I wore grew more and more meaningless
...
The former simple church girl became secretly rebellious
...
Grade 10 was a serious year, the year when life
decisions would have to be made
...
I no longer had my life planned
out; I was completely lost
...
The search of finding who I was led me to become involved in
school activities
...
I began
leaving memorable footprints each day as I walked the campus
...
I looked back at the person I was before being corrupted with the thought
of being an adolescent
...
I took each day trying to figure out how not to fit in
...

One cool Thursday evening I was invited to worship with the members of the International
School Christian Fellowship (ISCF)
...
In the midst of worship I realized the problem was nothing that God
could not solve
...
I tried my best to impact the campus by sharing the love
I had again found
...
I had truly come to the realization that I was a
beautiful, exuberant and talented young lady, among many other attributes
...
