BTEC Applied Science Unit 17 Assignment 1

Unit 17: Electrical Circuits and their Applications – Assignment 1 Electrical Quantities Task 1 Definitions:- Design a table or a poster for the following quantities. You must clearly ‘define’ each quantity, state its unit and quote relevant equations. Current, potential difference (voltage), charge, resistance, conductance, power and capacitance. As an addition to your table, outline the following: •Ohm’s law •Resistivity and conductivity •Table of good electrical conductors and resistivities •Table of good electrical insulators and resistivities •Kirchhoff’s first and second laws This provides evidence for P1 Task 2 Circuits:- This is a problem-solving task that can lead to a merit award. You will be working independently, but you can use your notes and resources in the lab. Answer all the questions on the task sheet: ‘M1 –Circuits’, You must show all working and have the correct unit for each quantity. You must score 100% for an award of ‘M1’. This provides evidence for M1 Task 3 Analysing electrical relationships and quantities (You are only being assessed on your ‘analysis’) You have already carried some of the experiments below. For each experiment, tabulate your results, plot appropriate graphs and write your conclusions. 1.Carry out an experiment to investigate how the resistance and power dissipated by a filament lamp and a resistor is affected by voltage 2.You are given a 1.000 m long resistance wire. Find how the resistance of the wire is affected by its length. Plot a graph of resistance against length. Use the graph to determine the resistivity of the metal. 3.You are provided with three 1000 F capacitors. Determine the charge-time and current-time graphs for the capacitor discharging through 100 k and 220 k resistors. This provides evidence for D1 Exam board is Pearson ALL ASSIGNMENTS I HAVE UPLOADED ARE DISTINCTION GRADED.
