Love

Sacrifices, what you can do for the ones you love. What you are willing to take for their happiness. The kind of happiness they give you, what they truly mean to you. And the fear of telling someone how you feel because things might get awkward and the friendship you have built might get destroyed because you started to have feelings for him. And the fear that he won't feel the same way as you.

Oryx and Crake

A book that is not often talked about when it comes to important authors in female writing. One can simply think that this is a Sc-Fi novel, or perhaps there are themes so deep that maybe Atwood had a lot more that one needs to take a closer look at? Regardless, Atwood isn't to be ignored when it comes to her work and what she contributed to the world of fiction. This may be a strange book, but there is a lot to learn from it.

The connection between setting and character in Gothic literature

Using three texts, "The Castle of Otranto" (1764) by Horace Walpole, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1890) by Oscar Wilde, and "The Cement Garden" (1978) by Ian McEwan, I will be exploring the connection between setting (tone, atmostphere) and character within Gothic literature. I chose those three texts because they share some similar underlying themes, but they are also quite different from each other, having been written in distinctive eras.
