CEF, RELINING AND REBASING
DR
...
That’s why we have CEF
...
CENTRIC OCCLUSION
Maximum intercuspation
“Perfect” interdigitation”
Cusp-fossa relationship
“4-point contact”
Balanced occlusion
To illustrate, these are the posterior teeth set at centric
...
NOW, WHAT IF… You have centric occlusion but when you move
it to the lateral there is a premature contact or only one contact
instead of 3
...
At centric, they don’t make any contact that’s why you can
reduce them
...
That’s why you grind judiciously
...
Always grind
the opposing FOSSA
...
Grind the Buccal cusp RIDGE of the Upper and the Lingual
cusp RIDGE of the Lower
...
4) In correcting PROTRUSIVE interferences in the anterior
teeth, grind on the labial portion of the incisal edges of the
lower teeth and the lingual portion of the upper teeth
...
Grind judiciously to preserve denture teeth anatomy and
preserve vertical dimension
...
And that is what we want to achieve in balanced articulation

NOW, going back to our example…

...
Process of replacing an entire denture base on an existing
complete or partial denture
Instead na tissue surface lang yung papalitan, dito yung
entire denture base
Presence of porosities
External and internal porosities
Rapid heating
Inadequate packing pressure
Inadequate material in the mold
PROCEDURES FOR DENTURE RELINING
You judiciously reduce the cusp up to the red line to facilitate
centric relation
ARTICULATION
The most important thing in relining and rebasing is that
there is still good occlusion or articulation so you want to
preserve that
...
IMPRESSION
The first thing to do is do an impression
So kapag nagrind na yun and nawala na yung interference,
magcocontact na sya
...
RELINING/REBASING
Relining and rebasing are dental procedures or prosthodontic
procedures when patients usually complain of loose dentures
...
We
either do relining or rebasing
...
RELINING
Process of replacing the tissue-contacting surface of an existing
denture
Poor fit /adaptation of denture base due to
Physiologic / pathologic bone resorption
Usually it is more on physiologic kasi kung pathologic
yan, umpisa pa lang magcocomplain na yung patient
Follow up procedure for immediate denture service
Immediate denture is when you fabricate the denture
when the patient still has teeth
...
The functional-impression technique uses a complete
denture that is delivered, relieved on its internal aspects
and filled with a slow-setting impression material) (tissue
conditioning material)
...
The completed impression then is converted to a
hard reline material via laboratory processing
...
The selected-pressure technique uses custom trays
constructed with less relief in the primary denture stressbearing areas and greater relief (and therefore, more
impression material) in the non-bearing areas
...
Less
pressure is applied through greater relief for impression
materials to the nonbearing areas

Dentistry 143: Complete Denture Prosthodontics
CEF, RELINING AND REBASING
Eto yung explanation ni Sir:
One is the functional-impression technique where you use
a soft reline material to do the impression
Prepare the existing denture
...
Adjust it accordingly if it’s too long or
too short (put modeling compound)
...
Make the impression and do
border molding
...
Give that to the patient
...
Since the material is soft, it will adjust with the functions of
the mouth so when the patient comes back, you check the
denture with the impression
...
Instead, you ask the patient to
leave the denture and don’t wear it for a day just to allow
the tissues to rest
You prepare the denture and remove at least 1mm to allow
for the impression material
Do the impression just like a normal impression and do
border molding
Then you check if you have a good impression
DR
...
It is also good to include the heel as part of a marker
Put the upper member and then mount it
SEPARATE ASSEMBLY
When you separate it, the upper member should only
retain the cast
...
That is also the amount of reline that should be
added while maintaining the relationsip (occlusion, VD,
etc)
...
DO NOT SEPARATE IMPRESSION FROM CAST YET!!!
WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIP OF TEETH WITH RIDGE
In RELINE, after pouring the impression, the denture may be
directly invested and processed
