Education in Indonesia
Education is an important aspect of a person’s life because it can be the key point of
their personality and future
...
Our nation is responsible in
educating its citizens with adequate curriculum for the sake of the development of its
future
...
Students in sixth grade are expected to pass with a
minimum average of 5,5 for the subjects of math, Bahasa Indonesia and combined
science while in 9th grade, they have similar system but with expanded questions to
suit the curriculums received
...
The idea of this arrangement is to
give students basic preparation for university as well as accustom students to plan
ahead
...
As a third-world
country, our nation is still undergoing through some developments in several aspects,
including the curriculum of education
...
First, due to our still-in-development infrastructure, knowledge has yet been
distributed evenly around the country
...
These
places are barely facilitated enough by the government, so a lot of people (including
teachers) refused to work under these conditions and preferred to find a job within
range to civilizations2
...
This happens as students are having difficulty from accessing fully
equipped lab, quality textbooks as well as Internet access3
...
The absence of worldly influence also
affects the mindset of these pupils, as they are satisfied with a degree in high school
and seldom seeks bigger opportunity to pursue their studies further

...
Secondly, as the ministry of education is still trying to find a suitable curriculum for
this nation so modification for the curriculum is done each year
...
It was also rumored that the national exam will be the only deciding
factor of the passing grade of a student although that proved to be false5
...
However,
this decision rouses doubt from the people: What if the Internet disconnects halfway
through the exam? What if a blackout occurs? What if someone hacks through the
website? What about schools with limited access to the Internet?7 Like in Kupang, for
example, students are having difficulty accessing the Internet and they would have to
do the exam manually8
...
Additionally, the government also decides to obliterate multiple choices in the exam,
which also stirs protest from both teachers and students9 to prevent dishonesty
...
Sadly, this proves to
be ineffective as answer keys and exam papers remain distributed discreetly among
people10

Which brings us to our final point, bribery
...
No matter how prestigious the school is, if you
have enough money for bribery, they will accept you regardless of your exam
results11
...
However, the
outcome of this subornation is affecting a lot of students especially those who doesn’t
stand a chance in competing financially
...
The
preventive measures the government took to prevent this have proved to be
ineffective
...
Instead of wasting money and manpower in managing pointless
projects like making a bunch of different question sets and implementing online
exams with no satisfactory results, they should’ve allocated the resources to do things
that actually matter
...
The resources are better used to facilitate those in remote areas and improve their
education so they won’t be left behind
...
It’s also important to set a nationwide standard for the teachers and tighten
the qualifications for teaching so students will receive finer education
...
Students are already
struggling enough as it is and the hassle of adapting to new systems each time is
unnecessary
...
Important as it is, it’s also important to consider the ones who are actually
carrying out the task and giving some time before the next alteration
...
Well, it’s pretty much the same except that these students had
worked hard with their future on the line
...
Tempting as it may sound, it’s still wrong
...
There is no definite solution to this,

...
Maybe it
doesn’t sound as bad seeing that it is a shortcut to everything you should’ve worked
hard for
...
Even if
there’s a law that states bribery is forbidden, people will still do it behind their backs
and who knows, maybe the ones who wrote the law would fall for the temptation
themselves and condemn every now and then
...
That's just how it works
...
Until that happens, I personally think that eradicating
corruption/bribery is a near impossible
...
However, there are certain issues
that I find ridiculous and inessential, as they could’ve been put to right quickly had
they executed the concept correctly
...
Educations may be important, but they are not limited to the academic
abilities students have, it is also important to learn how to act in public because
students will grow to be a part of the society that shaped this nation
