SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES
LESSON PLAN HPE1202

LESSON ORGANISATION

(based on Australian Curriculum: Health & Physical Education)

Intention: By the end of the lesson students should be able to correctly take an overhead mark, chest mark and low mark
...

Pre-lesson organisation:

Ensure the footballs are pumped up ready to be used by the students, enough for each student in the class, but
if not 1 footy between 2 students
...

Equipment:
-20x footballs minimum
-20x cones
-6x bibs

Learning Area Outcomes: Year 7 Football Program
Strand: Movement and Physical Activity (MPA)
Sub-Strand: Moving our body (MB), Understanding Movement (UM), Learning through Movement (LM)
Focus Areas: Active Play and Minor Games (AP), Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS), Games and Sport (GS)

9
...
Set up a large square area that
requires the entire class running
around
2
...
The rest of the students require a
football and spread out in the
square
4
...
If they get tagged they are
required to freeze with their ball
above their head
6
...

7
...

8
...

-Teacher should stand outside the
allocated square and wander around
to check everyone is participating in
the activity
...

-Should also make a decision whether
to change the taggers in the middle in
case they get tired during the
activity
...

Bridging organisation
-Students to bring in all the footballs from the drill and place them under their arms
-Number off the students into groups of 3 for the next activity
-The groups of 3 should have 2 balls between the group

Time

Activity 1: Clean Hands in 3’s
1
...
One group member needs to
nominate themselves as the
receiver and the other 2 members
are the hand ballers/kickers
3
...
The student to the left starts the
activity as they handball the ball
to the receiver, they then catch
the football and handball back
5
...
This keeps occurring until 10
handballs have been made on the
left and 10 handballs have been
made on the right
7
...
Extend the group back 5m and
this time complete a kick rather
than a handball
9
...
This allows the ball to be
caught and then handballed or kicked
within a few seconds to the designated
target
-Watching the football and letting the
ball come to you with soft hands is very
important
...

Bridging organisation
-Footballs are to be brought in and placed into the bag
-Next activity will require goals, so inform the students to get ready to kick some goals

Activity 2: Five Star Goal kicking
1
...
Sort the groups inside the forward
50 or in a large space so they are
in the shape of a star, should be 5
points where the students line up,
if necessary have two different
groups going at the same time
3
...
This is just to get an idea of the
pattern that they need to achieve
5
...
Let the groups kick the ball in
pattern to go around the star for a
couple of minutes and then add in
a goal kick for the last person in
the star rotation
7
...
They go collect the ball and start
it again through the formation of
the star

Kicking
-Students should focus on the direction
of their kick and a drop punt would be
the most appropriate kick for the drill
...

-Students should be switched on and
alert to understand how the football
travels around in the star formation
...

-Teacher should stand between the
two groups watching carefully and
correcting if necessary on ball
movement through this drill
...

-Teacher may need to go through
another demonstration if required
...

-This allows the students to naturally
kick the football and not worry about
the daunting task of getting the footy
through two big goal posts

Bridging organisation:
-Bring the students in again, but maintain near the goals
-Students are to get into partners and nominate a pair that each student wants to verse
-Set out the 6 points for around the world race as the students go out to the drill

Lesson Plan Template 2016

...

Game: Around the world race
1
...
The different pairs are going to
compete against each other for a
race of goal kicking at certain
points around the 50 metre arc
3
...
Aim of the activity is focusing on
goal kicking whilst students in the
goals have to focus on marking
and judgement of the ball
...
There will be 6 allocated points
around the 50m arc which the
students will have to kick goals to
continue onto the next stage
6
...
Rotate around so then your
partner versus their competing
student
8
...

-Drop punts, torpedos, snaps and
checkside kicks can all be used
Students should try and complete the
activities as soon as they can whilst still
focusing on accuracy of goal kicking and
concentration whilst marking

-Teacher should stand in between the
goals and the allocated cones for
kicking the goals
...

-Teacher should also be watching the
ball drop of the ball and kicking
technique, which may lead to reasons
way they may not be kicking goals or
whether they are doing well
...
Allocate the winning pairs
from each team to return all equipment (cones and footballs)
...

Closure:

Students are sitting in front of the teacher
...
The teacher then asks a student
to demonstrate or talk through the key teaching points of goal kicking and marking, picking students from different identified
abilities during the lesson
