SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES
LESSON PLAN HPE1202
LESSON ORGANISATION
(based on Australian Curriculum: Health & Physical Education)
Intention: By the end of the lesson students should be able to participate and understand modified rules of AFL, and be able to kick a drop punt to a
player on the lead, and to a specific location with direction and accuracy
Pre-lesson organisation:
Make sure the footballs are pumped up ready to be used by the students, enough for each student in the class,
but if not 1 footy between 2 students

Task Management
(Management of Student Group)
Beginning class organisation:
-Bring the class in and go over what is going to happen next week after the skills have been finished
-Discuss what is going to be happening during the last lesson before the carnival
-Discuss teaching points that are important for all the skills the students have learnt so far
Lesson Plan Template 2016
9
...
Divide students into groups of 7
and have the cones set out in a
pass ball format
2
...
Once it has reached the final
person, they run the football to
the front to the group and
everyone moves to the cone that
they hand passed the football to
4
...
Make it a competition, the first
group to 2 wins will take the title
“Scoop the ice cream technique”
(left handers use opposite hand for the
directions)
-Left hand is the ice cream tub, palm is
faced up and fingers slightly spread
apart
...
It
should also be facing the direction that
you want the football to go
...
The arm extends back and with
a closed fist comes through and
connects with the pointy end of the ball
-The teacher in this drill should be
wandering between the groups and
standing at the finishing line beyond
the groups to watch the race unfold
-The teacher should be paying close
attention to the students that started at
the front of the group so they are the
ones running to the finish line
-Also making sure that all group
members are actually handballing the
football, punishments can be put into
play by the teacher if throwing is a
occurring regularly
-Maintaining the solid positioning from
the left hand, right hand comes through,
stepping forward with the left foot and
should handball the football making a
slight backspin on the ball so it’s easier
to catch
...

Bridging organisation
-Leave 2 of the groups cones out as they will be required for the next activity
-Break the group in half and have 2 off the fence drills occurring at once to maximize participation

Time
as a group in half so each student
can participate more in the drill
Set up 4 lines in the group and a
student stationary around 10m
away from the students
Start the football in one of the
middle groups and work the ball
by handballing to the stationary
person, and then to the lines back
as quickly as possible
Repeat this action until every
person has had 3 turns of going in
the group
Extend the cones backwards
another 10m and repeat the
process with a kick between the
players
Advancements can include
adding in a defender or certain
amount of touches per run for the
students
Ball Movement
-Whether the football is kicked or
handballed the drill is going to flow much
easier and quicker if students just
concentrate on their skills and hit targets
-Even if the group starts slow and picks
up the pace towards the end, ball
movement is going to be faster if targets
are hit
-Teacher should stand in between the
two groups and be watching the
players perform the skills, identifying
strengths and weaknesses
-If the students are excelling add in a
defender to make it a little harder
Bridging organisation
-Again leave the cones out as they will be required for the next activity of Football volleyball
-Ensure students have 2 balls per group and there should be 4 even teams

Activity 2: Football Volleyball
1
...
Mark out 4 grids that should be
around 10m apart
3
...
Both grids start with 2 footballs
and have to try and kick the ball
into the other teams grid without a
student marking the ball
5
...
It’s a continuous game and it
goes until all players from one
team have been wiped out
7
...
45
9
...
Divide the students into 3 even
groups and allocate 3 different
colours for the each team
2
...
In an area like the 50 metre arc
on a football oval spread the
students out over the area
4
...
The ball is to be kicked only, no
handballs and there are no marks
so play on all the time
6
...
7
...
This should just keep rotating
around with different teams
coming defenders and then
attackers
9
...
Using the opposite
foot could be quite important as well
during this game
-Teacher should be standing on the
outside of the grid and moving down
the sides to watch the play
-Also can be the umpire of the game
and make calls on 3 seconds to get rid
of the football, and call the resets once
another team becomes the defenders
-Long distance kicks can be used but
increase the chance of a turn over
because it allows the defenders to cove
more ground and is more likely for your
team mate to drop the ball
Closing Organisation:
Students come and meet at the central starting point and sit down in their respective teams in front of the teacher
