Fantasy Tennis




Makes up a scenario that students can use to play a game of tennis, that makes the game
handicapped and evened out
Keeps the students engaged and interested
Can be played as doubles or singles

COMMAND TEACHING STYLE
Warming up for tennis





Students are to stand in 2 horizontal lines and face towards the teacher
Teachers informs students to bend their knees and hips and follow every movement they
command to improve footwork and balance on the tennis court
Teacher decides all decisions within the teaching
“3 steps left, 3 steps right”

The style








Students have no freedom
Not engaging
No differentiation
Dictatorship can cause confrontation
Quickly assesses who can and can’t coordinate the movements
Feedback instantly
Can be used effectively within certain situations

INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE

Mini Serve




Students were to individually have a racquet and a ball each and go through the KTP’s given
from the teacher, “Step, stop, drop, swing”
The Mini serve was completed underarm and had to be hit over a certain line on the fence
The students were to repeat this process as the teacher examine the technique and gave
individual feedback

The style










Name the skill and name the style
Behaviour objectives- Individual
Work along the net- Set boundaries
Set working boundaries
Demonstrate twice
Tell students what they’re meant to achieve
Know your role and student’s role
Ask questions- students
Adjust learners via ability and observation

RECIPROCAL PRACTICE
Mini Serve







Students must be in groups of 4 and demonstrate how to complete the skill as well as peer
observe
The drill will run over mini courts and mini nets for the students to get used to the game
The server will start on the base line, and complete the mini serve, there will then be a
receiver, an assessor and feeder
The server receives feedback after every shot, describing their good attributes of the
execution and areas to work on
The server has 4 turns at this skill and then rotates to now become the assessor
Students rotate around until all students have had a turn at serving and assessing

The style







Name the skill, style and subject
Demonstrate the skill, which should include the behavioural objectives
Show roles and check understanding from students
Use simple cues for the students, “step, stop, hit”
Need maturity and responsibility shown by the students
Feedback must be given based on content knowledge

INCLUSION







Teacher clarifies student’s roles, and gets the students to make the decisions for themselves
based on elements within the lesson
Inclusion is based around how can we make it easier for students to participate in the
activities
Within the mini serve, students can choose their racquet size, where to stand on the base
line, their tennis ball they want to use and trajectory of the tennis ball
This enables all students to better enhance their confidence and skill of the serve
Students show ownership in what they are completing
