Of Mice and Men Compare and Contrast
Published in 1937, Of Mice and Men, a book written by Novel Price-winning author
John Steinbeck, was made into a film and released in 1997
...
However, Lennie
is mentally disabled and George ponders about his time with him and how he can be a burden
sometimes
...

Steinbeck begins every section of the book with an incredibly descriptive setting of
where George and Lennie are found
...
This can be seen in the first paragraph of Of Mice and Men,
“A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hill-side bank and runs
deep and green
...
” (Steinbeck) This is one of the most relevant passages of the story
and it is perfectly describe in the book as in the film
...

George and Lennie have become partners throughout this challenging path in their
lives
...
Lennie is a huge man, strong “as a bull”
(Steinbeck) making him extremely useful to George finding jobs
...
However, this relationship has
caused a lot of trouble for George as Lennie doesn’t know how to control his strength and
because some people interpret actions, the childlike man does, the wrong way
...

Malkovich and Sinise understood these individuals and how to be them
...
“That`s the kind of
work I want to be a part of
...
” (Terry)
All though Gary Sinise had a vision for this adaptation, there were some scenes not
included in the book
...
Perhaps he wanted
the movie to have more suspense and drama
...
Such as in the first scene of the movie where he shows the girl in the red dress
running
...
After the girl in the red dress,
there is a bus scene but was never included in the book
...
Nevertheless in the book
this happens when they are at the river
...
[…] George sat up
...
“Gi’me
that mouse!” (Steinbeck)
Even though some sections/scenes were different, the message and the plot were still
the same
...
Of course details weren’t exactly the same and some added scenes made the viewer

react
