Unit 26: Managing Business Information
D1b: Recommend how a selected organisation could improve the quality of its business
information to support decision making
In this task, I am going to recommend how the Bakery could improve their business
information and how they operate to help them develop and grow in the long term
...
If we compare other popular clubcards to what the Bakery should have, we can then create
an outline of the features that our clubcard should have
...
By introducing a Clubcard, it would help to commit customers to the Bakery for the
long term and ensure there is more loyalty, as the customer continues to get rewarded for
remaining loyal to the business, so this would be a strategic change, as it would impact the
long-term growth of customers remaining and the business expanding
...
There are many rewards a customer can access if they collect enough points over time
...
Although this Clubcard may be successful in terms of enticing customers to sign up with
Tesco Clubcard, this system isn’t realistic with the Bakery, as Tesco have partnered up with
several different businesses so they can give the customers the perks, whereas with a small
business like the Bakery, this system won’t be possible as they won’t be able to have a
reward system to this scale, however, there are several aspects that can be applied such as
the points rewards system leading to vouchers which can be used internally, but not to the
point where this points system is national and can be applied to different businesses
...
Therefore, the Bakery could apply this where every fourth visit, they get
a free dessert such as a free donut, free cookie, etc, so therefore the customers are more
drawn to come back to the Bakery more often, and they are reminded of the quality products
the Bakery sells and they will be more willing to come back, and loyalty will remain as a
result of the new scheme
...
If we look at the data of
the orders received by town, we can see that this change definitely needs to happen
...
However, in the surrounding areas, we can see the drastic changes need
to be made, with the next highest being in Sawbridgeworth (8), then Waltham Abbey (4), and
Epping (2)
...
Therefore, the main priority would be to advertise in the areas with the least amount of
orders, (Bishop’s Stortford, Ware, Hertford, Epping and Loughton), in order to help the
business grow as a result
...
I believe that for the advertising to be successful, we need to advertise where the majority of
people will see the promotional messages, so I believe that the Bakery should advertise on
social media platforms within the areas as stated above on platforms such as Instagram and
...
Also, by advertising in these areas it will heavily contribute towards the long term
goals that the bakery has, such as growth and expansion, as if we have a growing customer
base in these areas, it will ensure that orders/sales grow more and more in these areas,
leading to better word of mouth, causing more sales
...
Another change to how the bakery currently operates that I will propose is an operational
change, which will impact how the business operates day-to-day, which will as a result
impact the long-term results of the business
...
I
collected some data on the flavours that the bakery currently provide and I found there isn’t
any balance in the range
...
When you also look at the sales relating to these flavours, there is an even worse balance,
with 124 chocolate flavoured products being sold, however only 32 lemon flavoured products
and 23 vanilla flavoured products were sold respectively
...
We can also take this a step further by being more inclusive, if the bakery starts to offer
allergen free options of their current flavours
...
The final change I will propose is to the current database system the bakery currently has
...
The employee then has to input the
order into the system and is then saved
...
Therefore, what I suggest is that the Bakery should create a website database in which the
customers can make orders online, instead of the system in which they have to call up
...
The Bakery should
take inspiration from websites such as Amazon, where they have all the products available
on the site, they have product descriptions, and in the top you can then go to the store,
where you can make orders, add things to your basket, and then decide whether you want to
pick up from a location (in this case, the location would be the bakery), or choose to have it
delivered to home, so therefore this database system would be much easier to understand,
and would then encourage repeat orders due to the ease of the process, and therefore more
orders would lead to increased revenues, leading to growth as a result
