Managing  a  coaching  programme

At  the  beginning
The  essence  of  coaching  is  to  help  riders  (individual  or  team)  achieve  goals  and  assessing  progress  is
an  important  part  of  the  design  process
...

We  therefore  start  with  a  plan/programme
...

When  designing  a  programme  deciding  on  the  balance  between  providing  input  sessions,  and
creating  space  for  learners  to  discover  for  themselves  will  be  crucial  for  the  success  of  the
programme
...
 It  is  a
vitally  important  part  of  the  process  and  can  affect  all  aspects  of  the  programme
...
Thus  we  need  to  also  assess  the  character  of  the  rider/s
and  where  they  currently  are
...

This  may  involve  risk  assessments  especially  if  the  rider/s  has  a  pre-‐existing  injury  or  weakness
...
I’m  afraid  I  did  not  know  how  many  copies  to  bring  and  hand  luggage
on  planes  is  restricted  so  I  brought  several  but  please  pass  around
...

DISCUSS

During  the  programme  or  Admin,  Admin,  Admin
...

If  we  are  dealing  with  a  group  of  riders  we  should  encourage  the  sharing  of  experiences  –  good  or
bad  and  using  these  to  change  or  amend  our  programme  going  forth
...
However  it’s  not  enough  to  just  receive  it  -‐  you  must  use  it
...

Programmes  are  not  a  “one  size  fits  all”  scenario  which  as  ladies  in  a  changing  room  know  that’s  a
rubbish  guide  anyway  and  this  is  the  same,  everyone  is  different  and  everyone  wants  to  achieve
different  things  from  the  rider  who  wants  more  confidence  to  the  rider  who  doesn’t  want  to
compete  and  ends  up  doing  so  !  in  a  team  capacity  this  is  the  same  also
...
 Feedback,  communication  and
conversation  are  essential  at  this  stage
...

Only  from  notes  can  we  even  review  where  we  are  or  where  we  ended  up  !

Finally
When  we  have  finished  our  programme  we  will  look  back  at  the  achievements  the  tears  etc  but
what  we  will  see  is  that  consciously  or  unconsciously  we  have  promoted  self  esteem  and  confidence
...
 Praise  increases  confidence  and  self
esteem  which  in  turn  increase  output  and  achievement
...
This  is  a  cyclical  positive  action
