Why is loyalty so important?
The Call of the Wild is a very inspirational story and there are a lot of lessons to
learn
...
In the
story we come across survival of the fittest, the power of instinct, power, companionship,
the joy of labor, and most importantly loyalty
...
London seems to be very strong on
loyalty because it took London loyalty to get to where he was
...
They moved around a few
times in his life as well
...
So know lets see how
loyalty is shown throughout the novel and prove that loyalty is what London wants us to
believe
...
Jack London was born in
1876 in San Francisco, California
...
London’s writing career essentially began in 1893
...
So she pushed London really hard to write a paper and join the contest
...
For anyone this was a huge deal since it was
such a smart school
...
It did take sometime for his work to catch on
...
He did this by writing his novel The Call of the Wild
(1903), which told the story of a dog that finds its place in the world as a sled dog in the

Yukon
...
His work began to wrap up due to a kidney disease, which ended up taking his life
...

Buck the man star of the story is a very athletic dog and is living the great life in
California
...
Buck is then sold into dog slavery and becomes
the property of Francois and Perrault
...
Perrault and Francois are
humane owners in the sled business
...
After they return from the their final run, they sell the team to a Scotch
half-breed, who also works the mail
...
Buck learns through out the story that this is his new life and he has to find
the new way of living
...
The sled team is next sold to Hal, Mercedes, and Charles,
who plan to use the dogs to take part in the Gold Rush in the Klondike
...
John
Thornton then saves Buck just before the fatal run
...
They
go through some loving and loyal times and really care for each other
...
This

is significant because everything that happened during his life prepared him to live life on
his on in the wild
...
The law consists of when a dog
is put with a bunch of other dogs and they fight to see who is the true leader
...
This
shows the dogs the idea that the strong will control the weak
...
When Buck lived in California with his
original owner Judge Miller, loyalty was a gentle idea
...
Buck loyalty was something he knew he could do with ease
...
"Love, genuine passionate love, was his for the first time
...
But love that was feverish and burning, that was adoration, that was
madness, it had taken John Thornton to arouse
...
92-93
Buck’s loyalty was never really tested till later in his life
...
Buck is finally tested to see how hard
loyalty is unlike the easiness with Judge Miller
...
Buck then comes across the leader
of the crew
...
They crew looks up to
Spitz since he is the leader and that’s the only choice they have
...
He is disloyal not only to his crew but to his owner
...
Since Spitz is
disloyal and his actions hurt the group; Buck knows that he can get the dogs on his side
because Spitz cares more about his own selfish desires for leadership than the survival of
the group
...

Loyalty was also seen in John Thornton when he protected Buck from being
beaten by Mercedes, Charles, and Hal by standing over him
...
They all staggered into John Thornton's camp at the mouth of
White River
...
“And then,
suddenly, without warning, uttering a cry that was inarticulate and more like the cry of an
animal, John Thornton sprang upon the man who wielded the club
...
Mercedes screamed
...
” John
Thornton stood over Buck, struggling to control himself, too convulsed with rage to
speak
...

"It's my dog," Hal replied, wiping the blood from his mouth as he came back
...
I'm going to Dawson
...
This is ironic
because John Thornton warned them about this and not to do it
...
"The bottom's likely to drop out at any moment
...
I tell you straight, I wouldn't risk my
carcass on that ice for all the gold in Alaska
...
John Thornton and Buck looked at each other
...
Buck loves John Thornton so much that he is willing
to do anything even if it is something that is an outrageous request
...
Buck knew no greater joy than that rough embrace and the sound
of murmured oaths, and at each jerk back and forth it seemed that his heart would be
shaken out of his body so great was its ecstasy
...
Buck then still shows his loyalty by attacking the tribe with
vengeance
...
Buck is then free to run with
the wild dog packs, but only on the condition that he is leader
...
So now
Buck wants to be loyal by leading his own tribe and getting them through the hardships
of life
...
He was taken
from his home in California and ended up in the cold with a dog sled crew
...
Buck also could have ended up dead or treated poorly by the Spitz, the leader of
the dog crew
...
