REPORT ON ANALYSING THE STANDARD OF WORKING CONDITIONS PROVIDED
BY A SELECTED MANUFACTURER AND SERVICE PROVIDER

TO: TEACHER
FROM: YOURSELF
DATE: ------

1
...
I have chosen Ford and Bluewater
Shopping Centre
...

I will also evaluate what laws each industry is following and if they actually have addressed
health and safety standards
...
0

PROCEDURES
I will go into depth with this report on how the centre should run its industries in the right
circumstances
...
I can also review even earlier work, where
the primary legislations and laws on the protection and wellbeing of two organisations are
presented, which are also Ford and Bluewater
...

3
...
The working conditions Bluewater must follow
include organisation of traffic routes, rest and eating facilities, maintenance of workplace
equipment, devices & systems, ventilation, temperature, lighting, cleanliness, room dimension
& spacing, workstation & eating, transparent or translucent surfaces and floor & condition of
traffic routes
...

The primary legislations both businesses should be following to ensure health and safety
amongst the workplace are:
Factories Act 1961 – This is informing all staff of the minimum standards required to keep
the workplace safe
...
Bluewater looks over the ventilation and temperature of the
shopping area as this lessens the possibility of diseases, cleanliness so no slips or trips are

made, shelved products as they could fall from a distance, and helps avoid hazards with fire
fighting equipment and fire escapes
...
This provides the fire brigade with the power to inspect the either area
when they feel workers are in risk of fire
...

Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – This act is what created the commission of health and
safety because those at risk from work are covered
...
Bluewater has more staff with this as it is a larger and more crowded workplace, and
they review materials left around, the amount of security provided throughout the centre such
as guards and cameras, that each store is properly hygienic, especially in restaurants, and that
any construction is distant from employees and customers
...
Duties are restrained when
using these, plugs are placed aside, no machinery is left around, and assessments are most
likely performed for more common issues such as who is shocked, how and the way it is
prevented for the future
...

Noise at Work Regulations 1989 – Manufacturing cars in an assembly line within Ford can
create severe noise for everyone, and staff always ensure that they are protected with sound
proof walls and ear plugs, especially for those who work with the physical manufacturing
process
...

The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 – All areas within Ford need
to meet the welfare needs of staff who work within them, which consists of maintaining
health and safety standards including cleanliness, equipment left around, number of crowded
staff and lighting
...
They also maintain the number of people, whilst
checking on the ventilation, temperature, hygienic health of consumers and if equipment is
placed and sustained
...
This is
not as big a concern for the manufacturing section of Ford since they perform more physical
forms of work, whilst Bluewater sells TV’s and computers and presents monitors for
everyone in a number of sizes
...
All of this is to ensure that no worker gets
hurt from risks such as repetitive strain injury, eye damage and back ache
...
Bluewater also has much apparatus and many supplies needed to be organised
for each individual store
...
Major accidents can happen to many staff if this is
not performed successfully as this act is about separating both staff and customers from the
equipment and each company demonstrates this with their high performance and secure areas
...
The vehicles and machinery themselves are also protected to reduce risk
...

Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 – Equipment is always
provided for all staff at all times within Ford as the assembly line can be a dangerous area and
accidents can be made
...
The equipment themselves need to be stored away and are provided free of charge
since they shouldn’t be dear
...
Ford requires the use of some hazardous materials whilst constructing their
vehicles, and Bluewater for various products in certain stores
...
Most vitally, both industries prevent anyone from being
exposed in any way to such substances
...
By any member of staff whether they are self – employed, employer or employee,
they are reported and both Ford and Bluewater enforce the HSE of incidents that can even
result in death while providing details of the incident in detail so that their can manger can do
their best to ensure they do not occur again
...
Ford
maintains their full – time staff by giving them shifts when the company needs them most,
whilst Bluewater has many stores and so the manger of each arranges different time shifts for
every full – time, part – time and temporary employees
...

Ford the manufacturer have shown that they provide satisfactory working conditions in a
workplace where vehicles are continuously constructed whilst having addressed health and
safety standards
...
These regulations include maintenance
of workplace equipment and devices, temperature, cleanliness and lighting
...
There is

also the number of requirements on HSE that they have obliged to respect, which include a
risk assessment, accident book and policy statement with training for staff
...
The number of legislations studied by
Ford have been carried out and is shown with no industrial accidents occurring or reported
...

Bluewater has also established great working condition standards as it is a centre with
hundreds of businesses, and very few accidents have occurred during the time that their open
or closed
...
These regulations include organisation and condition of traffic
routes, rest and eating facilities, and transparent or translucent surfaces and floor
...
The number of requirements given to Bluewater on HSE is not a problem since
visiting any of its establishments will present a professional consideration to needs such as
safety signs and notices, H&S poster, security and safety of staff, educating and informing
...

4
...
I have looked at regulations, requirements and legislations, and
have gained an understanding of how they are performed for each business
