Samuel sharpe was a well respected churchman who was
against slavery and constantly said the phrase that one
man cannot serve two masters and in 1831 led led a group
of 2000 slave rebels and they burnt down shops and

ware houses they took control over most of the lamd and it
took the whole of January for troops to control the slaves
and about 200 slaves died and more were excecuted
brutally or punished severely

The revolt had a huge impact on the anti slavery campaign
and the british government was shocked and knew that
having slaves in plantations was too dangerous and
expensive and just a week after his death the government
considered ways in which slavery could be abolished
