-Emotional Disturbances
-Flat Affect : The person shows little to no emotion
-The person would laugh when it is more appropriate to cry
-Unable to focus on important things
- Weird facial gestures
-A person must experience at least two or more of these symptoms for at least one
month to be diagnosed
- Categories of Schizophrenia
- Even though cases may have the same symptoms the order in which they appear would
determine which type of Schizophrenia they have
- Disorganized:
- very confused in speech
- Have vivid + frequent Hallucinations
-They have either inappropriate emotions or flat affect
-They cannot function in daily life
- they have in issue w/ shocking people in public + cleanliness of

themselves
-they would defect in public to get a reaction
- Catatonic
-is becoming very rare
- includes disturbed motor behavior
-person doesn’t respond to the outside world + doesn’t move at all


They would sit in a specific position for hours on end

their speeds are either all the way on or all the way off
-Paranoid
- suffer from Hallucinations and Delusions
-Auditory Hallucinations are common
-Delusions are typically jealousy of someone, grandeur,
persecution + tend to be very bizarre
- Positive Symptoms:
-Reflect an excess or distortion of normal functions such as Hallucinations
+ delusions
-Associated with overactivity in the Dopamine areas of the brain
-Negative Symptoms :
-Reflect a decrease of normal functions
-Associated with the inability to filter out stimuli to focus attention, flat affect,
problems with producing speech, and apathy + withdrawal from others
-Causes of Schizophrenia
- It generaling is pointed to the biological method
-It’s usually the activity of too much Dopamine + in the PreFrontal Cortex it has
been recorded that they produce a lot less Dopamine in Sch
