And that was when I realised, I’m not special or amazing or the best at what I do
...
Some were dressed smart as if they were going to work just like me, some
absolutely stunk and sat sprawled out on the seats so that no one else was to get a seat
...
I shoved my way past, finally managing to get a seat
...
That’s all
you would hear about
...
When I finally reached my stop, usually I would be greeted by my
work mate, Paul
...
But he wasn’t there
...
I decided to just shrug it off and go to work by
myself, it was nice to be by myself and not have him moaning like an old woman
...
Phones ring, keyboards click, people pace around trying to get
paperwork done
...
Either half of the people in work had
dropped off of the face of the earth or had just not bothered coming in
...
I decided not to pay any attention to it, I made the
effort to get myself into work and do what I had to do
...
I went downstairs to get
myself a coffee before starting my day
...
And I mean choking on tears and
blubbering God only knows what language
...

‘’No, Sam
...
Maybe that’s why she’s crying
...

What if the company are paying people off? Just how many people would lose their jobs?
Oh good lord it would be devastating… for them of course, never me
...

All through the day I could hear raised voices, slammed doors and people crying
...
Obviously the lazy ones who are just downright
crap at their jobs
...
I’m far too important and good at my job
for that
...

However, soon after, my office phone rang
...
But, when I looked at the caller
ID, my bosses name appeared
...
Oh my goodness maybe I was finally getting a raise! I cleared my throat and
answered, politely
...
’’
He answered very dryly before hanging up
...
I stood up and fixed my tie before going into his office, knocking
before I entered
...
I gave them a nod and looked back at my boss, who had never looked more
stressed in his entire life; it really wasn’t a good look for him
...

‘’Oh, yes
...
Well, it isn’t
good
...
So, I’m sorry to say your time here at our company has
come to an end
...
Well, that was it for me; I just completely lost it with him
...
I looked them in disgust
...
Take my job from me
...
No way
...

A few more hours passed, people had clearly heard of what happened in the office and
had been peering into my booth all bloody day
...

‘’Aren’t you supposed to be leaving, Sam?’’ he asked quietly, as if to avoid conflict
...
I chuckled softly as Mr Benson walked into my office, his face
plastered with rage and anger
...

‘’What on earth do you think you’re doing, son?’’ he hissed at me
...

‘’Filing stock reports, sir, is that okay with you?’’
‘’Right young man, I’ve tried to let you go in the nicest manner, but you’ve gone too
bloody far
...
NOW
GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!’’ I boomed right in his face and then sat back down in my chair
...
Security grabbed me and my things and chucked
my out on the pavement in the pouring rain
...
I had lost everything in the space of a day all because of my arrogance, if I had just
left on good terms, everything would have been fine
...
But that was
when I realised
...
I’m just Sam
