P6- Describe how political, legal and social factors are impacting upon the business
activities of the selected organisation and their stakeholders
M3- Analyse how political, legal and social factors have impacted on the two contrasting
organisations
Political- Tesco:
The social factors affecting Tesco are as they have increased the pay for their employees this has
influenced Tesco to cut overtime and night working wages to save cost and avoid any potential risks
to the business
...
Therefore they will be losing out on the extra money and they
may be sent home after an 8-hour day rather than the staff being paid extra for staying additional
hours

...
20 this will benefit employees they will see their pay increasing
...
Another benefit of this is for instance if the
minimum wage increase means that Tesco’s employees will be spending more which can mean that
the business will be earning more and will need to hire more workers to meet the demand of those
people spending more
...
Also it will bring in more opportunities for jobs as they will
require more workers this can result in the unemployed having the chance of being employed and
earning money to spend on goods and service
...
Therefore the increase in their wage it will mean they are less likely to quit if
they are earning more and be satisfied with their current job
...
On the other hand the increase in the minimum wage can mean for instance Tesco might want to
avoid any threats to the business and to do this they might raise the prices of their products in order
to generate more income to make sure that they have enough to pay their highly paid workers the
minimum wage
...
Also if the business ensures that they pay their employees the minimum wage it
can mean they will stop advertising jobs to recruit new workers as they might know that they won’t
be able to pay everyone the high wage
...
Legal- Tesco
There are many legal issues that they must follow that may affect some business
...
When business start
their business they will need to consider all the legal factors that they need to address when running
their business
...
Therefore some legal implications might
impact the business activities and they will have to follow through rules and the structure to make
sure that legal factors are looked at

...
The benefit of making some of their workers redundant means they can save the costs of keeping
them employed such as reducing the training costs, management time and this can help them
ensure that half of their profit isn’t going to the highly paid workers as they will be saving those costs
for instance to put towards the growing of the business
...
’ The result of this will mean that they will have to re-evaluate their
budget to make sure that they put the money towards those highly paid workers
...
But it can mean that if this is not the case Tesco will need to make a
decision somehow even though by means of making the high performing redundant because that’s
their decision those workers can’t have a say
...
Also for the employees at Tesco they will be pressured
as for instance if Tesco start to make their employees redundant it can mean that other workers will
get the idea that they might be next and will lose their job
...
As a result of this Tesco will be causing problems between employees and
will be putting their business at risks although they think this is the right thing to do it will be mean
that they will be losing good workers as some of them if they know they will be made redundant will
start to act differently and can influence Tesco’s decision to firing them
...
Therefore Tesco need to make sure that they avoid
making false or misleading statements of their goods and service that can cause issues to the
business and its consumers
...
http://www
...
co
...
All those fresh products that Tesco sell have been giving
the consumer a false idea of where exactly the products have been sourced
...
Therefore for Tesco selling those products it will mean that they
are misleading their consumers as buyers are not buying what they thought they are buying at the
start as if some prefer fresh products and if they know that they are buying the product that is not
from an actual farm they would definitely not be buying it
...
This will impact Tesco massively as their consumers will be having thoughts of buying from the
business if this is what they do it will mean that they are not a trustworthy business
...
Tesco have not been providing accurate information to their consumers if people look at the label
and see these names they may be convinced that they are fresh food from farmers but if people
decide to search the names they will be confused on what it comes up with
...
Legal- Tesco
Another legal issue that can affect Tesco is the new sugar tax this is the ‘new £520m charge’ on
sugar-sweetened drinks to fight child obesity
...
...
co
...
Or as some products contain mostly sugar in, it will mean that they will have to make
decisions of getting rid of the product itself or reduce the sugar completely
...
For that
reason it will also have an effect on the business as they may experience a loss of buyers on specific
products and repeat purchases will reduce in the business
...
This can mean that Tesco could be selling healthier options with affordable prices that
can attract more customers buying and avoiding the food with high sugars in them
...
As high sugar can affect people’s health it
can mean them suffering from diseases that some are not curable and can have an effect on the life
therefore sugar taxes can be a good thing to many individuals
...
On the hand it can
mean beneficial to the business as parents for example want
their children to be eating healthy and cutting down a sugar
therefore they will be getting the encouragement from them
and they will be pleased that a big brand such as Tesco are
doing this
...
But if they are making
improvements on the healthiness of its own label range and
they do ensure that they cut down the prices this will attract
consumers to be buying those healthy food
...
However from the government
charging sugar tax what will they do about products such as cheese? Where it is full of fat content
which makes it highly dangerous to people’s health but is only when it is consumed in large
quantities
...
Or will they reduce the amount of fat in them which can change the product completely and will still
reduce the amount of consumer buying it
...
But taxing the
junk food will cause severe money problems to those low income families which is all they may be
able to afford
...
They have included new branded meat which they offer fresh halal
burgers and sausages that those people who would normally buy halal meat from other places can
buy it at Tesco or Sainsbury’s
...
http://www
...
co
...
article
The benefit of this are it will attract more buyers in the other market that prefer to buy halal meat,
by Tesco and Sainsbury’s doing this it will mean that they are understanding all of their customers’
needs and wants therefore making sure to provide a range of products that can suit everyone
...
However if Tesco are doing this it will mean that they can save those people the time to go other
places to buy it or when they need it quickly they can go to their local Tesco store to buy the meat
on the time they need it
...
Another benefit of
including halal food at Tesco are that they will make more sales by including more products that
people will want to buy
...
Social – Tesco
Tesco’s relationship with Tesco have not been seen as to being good they have breached the
Grocery code that has made their suppliers lose millions due to their scandal in the supermarket in
2014
...
cityam
...
This has many consequences to the
business such as it makes the business look very unethical and this can potentially change the
perspectives of their consumers to think about shopping in other stores such as Tesco’s own
competitors
...
The business must wait
a longer period for them to become more ethical this is because when they breached the code of
practice they were labelled as an unethical business which meant that they made a big risks to have
delayed payments
...
Therefore turning into an academy
for some schools will benefit them in providing them with the freedom for the head teacher to
spend the money how they prefer, it allows the head teachers to become individuals and gives them
a sense of ownership in their organisation
...
theguardian
...
This has
all benefited the school by motivating students to work harder by them appreciating all that they
have and due to this it has helped them achieve better grades
...
This result shows that some schools turning into an
academy it is a way that they can change their ways and helping students getting the right grades to
benefit their future
...
Also to somehow get rid of the label of some schools being bad because
they are not an academy and the schools that are academies are better which will attract more
parents to take their child to the academic schools
...
Legal- OSA
The legal issue that affect OSA are the government has plans of every school needs to become an
academy
...
http://www
...
com/education/2016/mar/15/every-english-school-to-become-anacademy-ministers-to-announce
This will be a good thing to some schools as they will be self-governing at the same time being statefunded where they will receive funding directly from the government
...
But for low performing school it could be
said they may need that little push and by turning them into an academy can mean they can improve
in the performance of the school and students
...
6% which can mean that some schools will
benefit from turning into an academy
...
However the high performing schools should not be
given as much money to improve as they are already performing well they may not need it as much
as the low performing schools as the money and time will go to waste if they don’t improve
massively if they are already doing well
...
Therefore by giving
them the encouragement will mean that they can find their way round with the funding their given
to experiment on how the school can provide better education to the students with new facilities
and programmes
...
He
suggests we should have 9 or 10 hours a day to include these curriculum activities
...
theguardian
...
For teachers it will reduce their productivity as some may have the energy at the
start of the day and at the end their energy will reduce and they may not influence student’s
education which may have an effect on their overall performance
...
Also this can raise student’s attendance and can improve their overall school
learning climate by providing them with extra curriculum activities they can enjoy whilst learning at
the same time
...
The students jumped to ’44% in
Maths, 19% in science and 39% in English language this is in comparison to the schools performance
for the four previous years
...
Legal- OSA:
Students are getting fines for taking unauthorised holidays which is affecting their performance from
missing important lessons and work that will help them with their exams
...
The article talks about a farther that took his daughter on holiday in the school term to
Disney land and was fined for this, he refused to pay because he stated that ‘her unauthorised
absence did not mean she failed to attend school regularly
...
After six months of the holiday he was put on trial and had to argue his case against ‘section 444 of
the Education Act’ which requires that parents need to make sure that their children are attending
school every day
...
Parents can be fined of £60 per
child absence and if it is not paid after three weeks it will mean they will face with a fine of £120 and
this can increase depending on the court’s decision where they can increase it to £2,500 or parents
can even receive a jail sentence of up to 3 months
...
It will help them avoid them being in the situation of being
fined or be taken to jail just for their child missing a couple of days
...
The reason this it is the right thing to do is because it will make a different to
student’s attendance and their overall performance can improve
...
Also it will mean that they will
have to waste teachers and student’s time for them to catch up on the missed work as the teacher
will have to focus on them to make sure that they know what happened on the days that they
missed
...
It is said students who attend school regularly score higher
on tests than those students who are frequently absent as they miss out on most of the work that
they need to learn in order to receive a higher score
...
theguardian
...
For instance almost 64,000 fines have
been issued since the law made in September 2013 this rise to about 70% in unauthorised absent
from students
...
Which can mean not that
parents or guardians in Lancashire have not
taken the legal issue seriously and have been
allowing their children to take unauthorised
absent which have led them to receiving
fines
...
Even when OSA and other school have made sure to make
attending school a compulsory some of the students may not like the idea of school and will be
skipping it to do unnecessary things that mean it will impact their attendance
...
Which can mean that for some people it can impact them massively because as
their child does not want to attend school which is not the parents or guardians fault for this
happening? But they will still receive fine as this may not be a valid reason as it is their responsibility
to ensure that their child is attending school
...
Therefore for some people the fine may not be a good thing that they experience as it can impact
them dramatically due to some situation that they may experience
...

Social- OSA
Oxford Spires Academy have improved since the start they were first called ‘Oxford School’ and they
had many students attending the school
...
Sue croft
the head teacher of the school transformed the school and created a new environment for students
to study at
...
oxfordspiresacademy
...
The benefit of this are the school improved quickly and attracted many parents to take their child to
the school because of the achievement of from other students that attended the school
...
And she was able to meet this aim as in the summer
2012 78% student achieved 5 or more to A*-C grads and 57% students achieved 5 or more A*-C
grades including English and Mathematics
...
Also parents will be more willing to take their students to the school if other students are
achieving good grades it can mean that they will be confident knowing that their child will getting
good results
...
