allosteric regulation: molecules bind to the enzyme somewhere other than the
active site
⁃ allosteric activation: active site becomes available to substrates when
regulatory molecule binds to a different site than the active site (must
bind to a different site & active the enzyme by changing shape)
⁃ allosteric deactivation: active site can become unavailable to substrates
when regulatory molecule binds to a different site & changes shape
