E isomers- Entgegen: opposites

greatest Mr) are on the same side of
the double bond
- Therefore they are Z isomers
- The old name for it would be Cis
isomer
- Priority groups are on opposite
ends of the double bond
- This makes them E isomers
- Old name would be Trans
isomers
Geometric isomers arise as a result of restricted rotation around the double bond at room temperature
Cis/trans system breaks down due to no priority group being the same
